Top Gun is all about being patriotic and showing how the Superpower of the world, The United States of America, trains their elite fighter pilots.
The return of the main character Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell played by Tom Cruise has aged but well and has been assigned as the teacher in the Top Gun academy, this time in the desert of San Diego.

There is a catch to the plot is the son of the onboard system technician who died when his father Nick “Goose” Bradley who ejected from his F16 fighter jet after being hit by a surface-to-air missile during a mission, some thirty-four years ago.
The introduction to Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller) happened in the local and only bar in town and at the bar piano playing Great Balls of Fire, just like his father Goose and in the same setting with the new recruits to the top gun elite fighter pilot training academy.
Maverick whose undisciplined character means he's never progressed, but he is the main test pilot of a hypersonic fighter jet secret program, which is his pride and joy, but manages to go beyond the remit and permit of testing, resulting in failure and disappointment amongst his superiors.
This leads to Maverick, given the opportunity to redeem himself, is given a mission, which he is enthusiastic about, and takes the new recruits' challenge and playful camaraderie on the chin as it results in him being slung out of the bar, after realising he is their mentor and top gun teacher.
The films action sequences during their training are speculator and the manoeuvres are breathtaking, going at sonic speeds needs light touches and good coordination, which leads up to the most important part of their training which is dogfighting.
The story has subtle humour in it, especially as Maverick needs to make a hasty exit by the window as his past love interest Penelope “Penny” Benjamin (Jennifer Connelly) daughter Amelia (Lyliana Wray) returns unexpectedly home.
There are sentimental moments, but the one that tugs at the heart strings is when Maverick visits his old and trusted former naval flight crew member and now Admiral Tom “Iceman” Kazanksy (Val Kilmer), and the fact that he couldn't speak at first due to suffering from cancer in real life, which was part of the actual plot, but with some filming trickery Val Kilmer does say some inspirational words, that makes the tough guy Maverick well up, and I'm sure it will make many of you do the same thing.
The success of this film has meant that Hollywood is making a third sequel, which will tie up some loose ends of this instalment of the franchise.
